Expectations of others

I often come across individuals who describe an inability to meet the expectations of their loved ones. This usually leaves them feeling like failures or "not good enough".

The expectations of others are based on their own beliefs of how they think we "should" act. Much like perceptions, expectations are influenced by their owner's past experiences, values and beliefs. In other words, expectations are based on their owner's views on life and perceptions of who they would like us to be. Armed with this awareness, it is always worth exploring the expectations of our loved ones and their importance and relevance to us before swallowing them whole or using them as a measure of our own worth.
